Lincoln FC

The competitive soccer club in Lincoln, Illinois

Lincoln FC was formed in the Spring of 2009.  After the fall season at LCHS in 2008, we decided it was time to form a competitive soccer club in Lincoln.  At the time, nearly all the boys in the high school played only recreational soccer growing up.  Some of them wanted to play higher level soccer, but driving out of town for all the games and practices was a huge commitment.  A small group of parents and the LCHS head coach (Tim Stuckey) met and decided to form the club. The original team was made up of high school boys from LCHS, who played in competitive tournaments as a U18 group.  That same spring, our original board of directors (Jeff Wunderlin, Rick Zimmer, Jim Coop, Dru Hauter, and Tim Stuckey) met regularly to discuss how the club would move forward.

We decided to form younger age group teams and move down the ladder from there.  Tryouts were held in the summer of 2009 for a U10 group, but there was not enough interest.  In the fall of 2009, we went to the city council to discuss turning 27 acres of city owned farmland into a soccer complex.  Much to our delight, the Aldermen and Mayor loved the idea, and the Lincoln FC soccer complex was officially taken over by our club in March of 2010.

In the spring of 2010, we again held tryouts, and had enough players to have a U10 team and a U14 team.  The U10 team, coached by Robert Bailey, played in a few competitive tournaments.  The U14 team, coached by Seth Frontone, played in a junior high travel league. The high school team was being coached by Todd Spellman, and playing in the CIYSL and tournaments.  Lincoln FC now had 3 teams!

In the summer of 2010, again tryouts were held, and enough players were present to form a co-ed U9 team, a U11-12 team, and U14.  At this time, our fields were still under construction and all practices and games were held at Lincoln College, who graciously allowed us use of their facilities.

The spring of 2011 is when our club numbers really grew.  We had enough players to field 3 U9 teams, including our first ever all girls team, a U11-U12 team, U14, and high school boys.  Also in the spring of 2011, the Lincoln FC soccer complex officially opened for practices and games.

In the fall of 2013, we fielded 2 U9 teams, 1 U10 team, 2 U12 teams, and 1 U14 team.  The complex will have 3 U8/U9 fields, 2 U10 fields, and 3 full size fields.
